Madras University set to get new vice-chancellor soon
CHENNAI: According to syndicate members of the University of Madras, the university is likely to get a vice-chancellor very soon.
In the syndicate meeting on Thursday, more than 10 members raised the issue of reconstituting the convener committee, which runs the university in the absence of the vice-chancellor. Their main contentions were that the convener committee has not even met once and it does not have representation from the university.
Higher education secretary A. Karthik who chaired the meeting reportedly told the members that the convener committee is going to be a “very short time affair” meaning the vice-chancellor will soon be appointed.
The university is functioning without the head for a year after professor R. Thandavan’s tenure ended in January 2016.
Syndicate members also nominated professor M. Srinivasan from department of criminology as controller of examination (CoE) (in charge). The present COE Thirumagan’s term is coming to an end this month.
