Bengaluru: In a thrilling sequence of events straight from the movies, a brave auto driver chased a bike-borne chain-snatcher and managed to catch him after knocking him down from the vehicle with his auto, in Marathahalli.
Thought the incident occurred on Sunday near Max showroom in Marathahalli, it came to light only on Wednesday. Auto driver Hanumantha was rewarded with Rs 10,000 cash price by the city traffic police for his brave act. The Marathahalli police arrested the chain snatcher, Vignesh, a resident of K.G Halli, and recovered the gold chain that he had snatched from the woman. The entire incident is caught on a CCTV camera.
The CCTV footage shows the victim walking when Vignesh approaches her, snatches the gold chain from her neck and speeds away. Hanumantha, who is in his auto at the same spot at the same time, witnesses the incident and chases Vignesh. After a few meters, Hanumantha crashes into Vignesh’s bike and brings him down. As Vignesh falls off the bike, Hanumantha shouts for people's help and catches him. The public catch hold of Vignesh and thrash him before handing him over to the Marathahalli police.
The police later produced Vignesh before a local court which remanded him to judicial custody.
