Telangana polls: It was a mixed luck for the wealthiest of the lot

The TRS had fielded 107 crorepatis and the BJP and the Congress 86 candidates each.

Hyderabad: Eight rich candidates lost the elections but the richest nominees of the TRS and the Congress were luckier.

Mr Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy (Congress) from Munogode, the richest in the fray with total assets of Rs 314 crore, won with 97,239 polled.

The second richest candidate, Mr Marri Janardhan Reddy with Rs 161 crore assets, won on a TRS ticket from Nagarkurnool.

Congress candidates were the richest with average wealth of Rs 16 crore, followed by the TRS Rs 12 crore, BJP and the BSP Rs 7 crore.

The TRS had fielded 107 crorepatis and the BJP and the Congress 86 candidates each.

Two Congress candidates, Anil Kumar Reddy Kumbam from Bhongir and Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj from Secunderabad, whose total assets were valued at Rs 152 crore and Rs 131 crore respectively, lost.

BSP’s Sunil Kumar Muthyala, who is worth '182 crore, lost from Balkonda. His colleague Gaddam Vinod with assets worth Rs 131 crore lost from Bellampalli. BJP candidate Gajjala Yoganand with assets worth '146 crore from Serilingampally also lost.

Some of the rich candidates secured very few votes. Dr Aluka Srinivas Rao of the Nationalist Congress Party with Rs 120 crore assets got 760 votes in all in Rajendranagar.

K Kusuma Kumar Reddy, independent candidate with Rs 149 crore assets, got 218 votes in Malkajgiri.

In Khammam, Nama Nageswara Rao of the Telugu Desam, whose properties are valued at '112 crore, finished second behind the TRS' Ajay Kumar P.
