Telangana Polls: Congress says EVMs were manipulated

Former minister K. Jana Reddy also said the Congress doubted the functioning of the EVMs.

Hyderabad: The Congress reeling under the TRS wave alleged that manipulation of electronic voting machines (EVMs) had led to its defeat. The Election Commission had turned down their request to count the paper trail of the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPAT), it said.

TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress suspected many irregularities in the election process which included the manipulation of EVMs, deletion of names from voters list.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Reddy said, “The Election Commission (EC) has joined hands with the TRS. The announcement of election dates was made by KCR. We will approach the EC on the tampering of the EVMs. The people are having doubts about the EVMs.”

He said that the EC had not accepted their request to count the VVPAT slips and match the tally with the related EVMs. “When we asked the EC to show us a sample of the EVM and VVPAT results, they agreed but said that they would choose the EVMs. Our candidate has lost in Dharmapuri with 400 votes, but the EC didn’t agree for counting of VVPAT slips. Paper trails should be done in all constituencies. The results are mismatching with the ground reality,” said Mr Reddy.

Former minister K. Jana Reddy also said the Congress doubted the functioning of the EVMs.

TPCC treasurer Mr. Gudur Narayan Reddy has congratulated the CM and his team for their thunder success. “I wish the God to make the CM to work for the betterment of Telangana people,” he said.
