First agro hyper market in Thrissur soon
Thrissur: The first ever agro hyper bazaar in the country under the Agriculture Department will be opened at Chembukkav in Thrissur on December 16. Agro Industries Corporation (AIC) will be operating the bazaar which will source vegetables and other produce from societies, farmers' groups which are functioning under the government or operating with government aid and vegetable farms under agriculture universities across the country. The vegetables from other states and produced by agriculture universities across the country will also be available in the market after making sure that they do not have pesticide residues.
Speaking to media persons here, Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the bazaar at 10 a.m. on December 16. The ground and first floor of the AIC building near Thrissur Zoo in Chembukavu will be converted to the agro bazaar. "We are also providing a facility near bazaar for the organic farmers to sell their produce," minister said. The bazaar will be named 'Keralasree' and similar ones would be set up at Thiruvanathapuram and Kozhikode soon, the minister added.
