Drop retrospective STP rule: Opposition leader Padmanabha Reddy

He alleged that it was implemented without consulting apartment owners.

BENGALURU: BWSSB's retrospective rule mandating sewage treatment plants (STPs) for apartments with 50 and above units should be withdrawn immediately, demanded BBMP leader of opposition Padmanabha Reddy.

At a special council meeting on Monday, Reddy demanded said, “Many realtors have built apartments and already washed their hands of them. If a new rule is imposed on installing STPs in existing apartments, where will they install it? The rule should be taken back.”

He alleged that it was implemented without consulting apartment owners.
He said, “The BWSSB had made rainwater harvesting mandatory, while it could not install a device at its own building.”

He blamed the BWSSB for flooding in the city recently. “BWSSB water lines pass through storm water drains and they hampered the desilting process as some pipes broke while removing the silt from storm water drains,” he said.

Every month, the BBMP pays '12 crore towards power bill for streetlights. With LEDs, the bill can be brought down to '3 crore.
