Cyclone Ockhi: CIFT, CMFRI join rescue operations

CIFT vessel Matsyakumari-II and CMFRI research vessel Silver Pompano have joined the operations.

KOCHI: The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology and Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute have extended their support for the search and rescue operations in Ockhi-affected areas. CIFT vessel Matsyakumari-II and CMFRI research vessel Silver Pompano have joined the operations.

The CIFT team led by skipper Francis Xavier, two officials from the enforcement wing of the fisheries department along with two fishermen from Pozhiyoor are onboard the department vessel. The vessels are equipped to conduct searches at 140 nautical miles north of Alappuzha for five days initially as requested by the joint director of fisheries, Ernakulam. The fishing technology division of CIFT has also initiated a study on the impact of Ockhi on marine fisheries.
