Andhra Pradesh calls District Selection Committee, TET entrance exam dates

Meanwhile, though students have begun preparing for the examination, they don't seem to be happy about the government's announcement.

Vijayawada: The government of Andhra Pradesh recently announced the holding of the District Selection Committee (DSC) entrance examination for the recruitment of teachers. A detailed notification regarding this will be issued on December 15. Ever since the announcement was made, coaching centres have gone into overdrive.

About 4-5 lakh eligible candidates are expected to appear for the competitive exam, and coaching centres have opened their doors to them. In many places, tents and huts are being set up to conduct classes. Within three days of announ-cement, hundreds of students have signed up for coaching classes. Many institutes are burning holes in students’ pockets with this opportunity. A fee amouting Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per student is being collected by the institutes.

Meanwhile, though students have begun preparing for the examination, they don’t seem to be happy about the government’s announcement. They say that the government has not clearly announced the dates and times for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and DSC examinations, and they are worried that they might not get enough time to prepare.

L. Kavitha, a student, who joined a coaching centre, said, “We are not happy with the announcement. It looks like it has been made because of the Supreme Court’s order. The announcement itself shows that the government is in a hurry. The number of posts announced are few, and there is no clarity about reservations. The syllabus has not been announced either; we will have to wait until December 15 for the detailed notification.”

R. Sunitha, another student, said, “The syllabus may be vast, the time for preparation is less, and the number of applicants will be sky-high; it looks like the competition is going to be tough. There aren’t many subject specialists available in the state, so we are hurrying to join coaching centres without having time to inquire about them.” I. Kishore, the director of V-Rahul Coaching Centre, Vijaya-wada, said that they expect the government to announce that the TET and the DSC will be conducted on different dates.
