Rudresh murder: NIA takes up case, files FIR
Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday re-registered an FIR in connection with the sensational murder of RSS worker R. Rudresh in October.
Following a direction from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday, the NIA officials re-registered the case at its police station in Hyderabad on Saturday. However, there are no additional charges invoked against the arrested persons in the case and the NIA will probe the case under various sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and the Arms Act, as earlier registered by the Commercial Street police in the city.
Rudresh was murdered in broad daylight near Srinivasa Medical Store on K. Kamaraj Road in Shivaji Nagar on October 16, soon after a Path Sanchalan held by the RSS. The city police had arrested five people, including a senior leader of the Popular Front of India (PFI) of Bengaluru Unit, for involvement in the conspiracy. The police are investigating the case for offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, as the crime was a terrorist act, committed with a motive to strike terror in the minds of common citizens.
As part of the probe, a team of officers of the NIA will be visiting the city shortly to visit the crime scene and commence the investigation. The NIA will also place the FIR before the NIA Special Court in the city.
