Mercury still 4ºC below normal in Telangana
Hyderabad: The mercury continued to stay up to 4º Celsius below normal across the state. Adilabad recorded 7ºC, the lowest in the state, Medak 10ºC and Nizamabad 12ºC. In the city, the mercury stood at 12.9ºC.
Mr Narasimha Rao, former meteorologist with the India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad, said dry cold winds flowing from the north and the northeasterly winds were the main reasons for the drop in temperature.
This was the reason the northern districts like Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Jagityal, Nizamabad and Medak record lower minimum temperature than the southern districts. He said these districts had more open areas and forests.
The temperature would increase once strong easterly winds blow in from the sea, resulting in the development of clouds. An IMD official said Cyclone Vardah, expected to cross the coast near Chennai on Monday midnight, would not have much impact on the state, except for light rainfall at a few places.
