Two Nizamabad farmers also attempt to end life
NIZAMABAD: Two farmers attempted suicide in separate incidents within Nizamabad district on Monday alleging that revenue officials were being negligent in dealing with their issues. In the first incident at Nizamabad Collectorate, Ankam Gangadhar, 55, of Dubbak village in Dharpally mandal climbed a neem tree in front of Pragathi Bhavan and tried to hang himself.
While police and people there kept asking Gangadhar not to take the extreme step, Narayana of Kummanpally, who had come to the collectorate with his own petition, climbed the tree and rescued the victim.
When collectorate police took Gangadhar to collector M. R. M. Rao, he complained that Dharpally tahsildar did not act on his complaint of two bores in his field turning dry after his brother dug a bore illegally adjacent to his boundary. The collector assured that necessary action would be taken.
In the other incident at Taggelli village in Bodhan mandal, a woman farmer Ambavva poured petrol over herself in front of Bodhan Revenue Divisional Office. Others present there prevented her when she tried to set herself alight. The victim said details of her 1.03 gunta land had been uploaded online in another person’s name. Despite repeated requests, revenue officials had not made any correction. Revenue and police officials assured that her issue would be taken up immediately.
