Tamil Nadu leaders condole T N Seshan’s death

The DMK president M K Stalin said Seshan was a resolute protector of democracy by holding free and fair elections during his teunure.

CHENNAI: Led by the AIADMK co-coordinator and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami, leaders of various political parties expressed grief at the passing away of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) T N Seshan, even while lauding his firm steps to cleanse the electoral system.

"It was only during Seshan's tenure as CEC several far-reaching changes were made to procedures and rules to ensure free and fair elections; his work in this regard is commendable," said Mr. Palaniswami.

Deputy Chief Minister, O. Pannereselvam said Seshan did not compromise on any issue, functioned as an honest administrator and by his bold actions turned people's attention towards the EC.

The DMK president M K Stalin said Seshan was a resolute protector of democracy by holding free and fair elections during his teunure. Seshan used his authority in an impartial manner. "His work will always shine in keeping democracy alive," Stalin added.

Other leaders who expressed their condolence included TNCC president, K S Azhagiri, PMK founder-leader Dr S Ramadoss, TMC president G K Vasan, MNM leader Kamal Haasan, AMMK leader T T V Dhinakaran, and Samathuva Makkal Katchi leader R Sarathkumar.
