Reckless driving killed journo: AK Saseeendran
Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister A.K. Saseeendran on Monday told Assembly that negligent and reckless driving of IAS officer Sriram Venkataraman had led to the death of media person K.M. Basheer in Thiruvananthapuram on August 3.
The minister was replying to a query on what resulted in the death of the journalist.
According to police report, negligent and reckless driving had resulted in the accident that snuffed out the life of journalist Basheer, he said. Muslim League MLA K.M. Basheer had raised the question in the House.
The minister’s reply clearly proved wrong Sriram's claims that he was not behind the wheels at the time of the accident and that he had not consumed liquor. However, the minister did not make any mention about Sriram being drunk at the time of the incident.
The IAS officer has been under suspension since August 4.
The Minister informed Assembly that under the revised Motor Vehicles Rules, `6.26 crore has been collected as fine for various violations within a week.
