Mom, daughter attempt suicide in Tiruchy collectorate
Tiruchy: Tension prevailed for some time at Tiruchy collectorate on Monday, when a woman along with her differently-abled daughter attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on their persons.
Police said the woman Ms. James Marry and her daughter Anu Jayashree made this attempt after they presented a memorandum to the collector S. Sivarasu. In her petition she said the thoroughfare leading to her house was encroached upon by her neighbors, putting mother and daughter to untold suffering. They also snapped the electricity power supply line to their house, they alleged. However, the mother-daughter duo was stopped from committing suicide by the police personnel present there.
Mrs. Vani of suburb Kumbakkudi, wife of a police constable, attached to the Srirangam police station staged a dharna at the collectorate demanding suitable action against those who communally abused her family members and also snatched away the two-wheeler of her son.
A 32-year-old agriculture worker waiting in the queue at the Tiruvarur collectorate on Monday along with other petitioners, swooned and he was admitted to the Govt medical college hospital there. He is alleged to have consumed poison as police did not take action on his complaint for long.
