Hyderabad: Cops' humanity helps youth cremate mom

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police yet again displayed their humane side by helping a 24-year-old Bengali youth cremate his mother.

A person from Bengal brought his mother to Hyderabad for treatment 12 days ago and admitted her at the Asian Gastroenterology Institute. As he couldn’t afford to pay the hospital bills, he shifted her to Osmania General Hospital, where she died.

Mr Prabhath Kumar Ojaj, a resident of West Bengal, came to the OGH outpost and was in tears as he could not afford to take back his mother’s body to Bengal for cremation.

Afzalgunj inspector S. Vekatesham said, “He was found at the OGH outpost by our constable. We thought of arranging an ambulance to take the body to Bengal, but they demand Rs 40,000 to shift the body. I contacted some Bengali associations in the Old City. With their help, we collected Rs 25,000 and conducted the funeral at Puranapul on Sunday morning.”
