RK Nagar bypoll work to begin by end of November
Chennai: Poll work for the much awaited Radhakrishnan Nagar bypoll will begin by the end of this month and the model code of conduct for the seat that became vacant after the demise of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa is likely to come into effect by next month.
About three to four weeks will be given for political parties and the candidates to complete the nominations and the campaign, said an informed corporation official.
Based on the instructions from election commission of India, the public election department in Chennai has communicated about the possibility of bypoll to R K Nagar by December third week and the basic infrastructure is ready for the polls.
Already a poll observer is looking into the enumeration of Chennai's voters roll and the inclusion of new voters and deletion of voters were scrutinized at micro level to ensure fool proof voters roll and other works will follow once when the poll date is announced by the election commission, the official said.
When asked about the status of local body polls, the official said that there were no instructions on local body polls from the state election commission.
“There are no signs of civic polls any time before December as the civic bodies are focused on monsoon works and the provision of polling stations and logistics will be an issue. We will communicate the same to the state election commissioner,” said a senior official attached to a district election office in north Tamil Nadu.
