Andhra Pradesh ignored Dalits' plea: GV Harsha Kumar
Rajahmundry: Expressing serious concern over how Dalits are being subjected to injustice in various aspects in the state, members of the community vowed to march to Amaravati if the state government failed to come to their rescue. An awareness summit on the atrocities on Dalits was organised under the leadership of former MP G.V. Harsha Kumar here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the former MP castigated the state government for failing to address a series of issues affecting the interests of the Dalits. He said similar meetings would be held in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam shortly to bring awareness among the Dalits on the need to become united and fight for political power, social equality and economic empowerment.
The meeting passed as many as 16 resolutions, including a demand for restoration of a large number of idols of Dr B.R. Ambedkar as they were subjected to desecration and destruction at several villages in the state. Former Union minister Chinta Mohan wished that a Dalit leader would become the Chief Minister of the state in the ensuing general elections in the state.
