Hyderabad: The demonetisation of higher currency notes had its impact at the Shamshabad airport with the foreign exchange counters at the arrival and departure lounges running out of lower denomination notes.
Several Indians and foreigners who flew in from the US and other countries since Thursday night were told by the staff at the exchange counters maintained by Weizmann Forex Limited that there was no change.
A group of foreigners who arrived from the US were stranded for hours until they finally took Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes. “There is no supply of lower denomination currency since Thursday afternoon. We are helpless.,” said the staff at the arrival counters. Several ticket booking counters ran out of lower denomination currency.
