Madurai: Court slams shabby report on school loos

Government schools in Madurai, Dindigul and Thanjavur were poor and many schools don't have toilet facilities.

Madurai: Condemning the state government for submitting a shabby report which lacks vision and programme for improving the toilet and infrastructure facilities in a phased manner in government schools across the state, Justice S.Nagamuthu said, "Your report is written in a flowery language, but it doesn't have any substance to suggest measures to augment the toilet facilities for students,".

Following an advocate commission report to the court that sanitation and infrastructure facilities in government schools in Madurai, Dindigul and Thanjavur were poor and many schools don't have toilet facilities, the court had directed the Principal Secretary, School Education department to submit a report on concrete steps they would take to improve the sanitation facilities in government schools within a stipulated time period.

The additional advocate general Pugalenthi submitted the report to the division bench comprising Justice S.Nagamuthu and G.Muralidharan on Friday. It was mentioned in the report that they have constructed 42,361toilets over the last five years in 5,789 higher secondary schools in the state.
