GHMC to rope in corporates for road repairs

Road repair works are likely to begin from the first week of November if everything goes according to the plan.

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to hand over maintenance of roads within the state capital to private players. It will follow a hybrid tender process to execute road maintenance works worth Rs 1,300 crore. The civic body has also taken a decision to lay 687 lane kilometres of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 1,300 crore.

According to highly placed sources, six bidders have expressed interest in road maintenance. As per the hybrid process, 60 per cent of payment will be made after the execution of repairs. The remaining amount will be adjusted in future payments within a span of five years. The finalised agency will be responsible for road maintenance for a period of five years. In any case of any delay in repairs, the agency will be penalised.
