Thanal Palliative to launch She Palliative' care
Kochi: The Thanal Palliative and Paraplegic Care Society will launch a ‘She Palliative’ project in Ernakulum district to improve the quality of life associated with life-threatening illness.
District collector K. Muhammad Y. Safirulla will inaugurate the project at the corporation community hall, Kaloor, on Saturday, World Palliative Care Day. ‘She Palliative’ activities will be initiated and coordinated by female staff, especially driving, nursing and voluntary work.
The project will provide a women-friendly atmosphere and specialized medical and nursing care for women, bed-ridden patients, those with disabilities and old age patients.
Those who will attend the function will include Arpitha Varghese (UN), Dr Remya Ramachandran (SH College, Thevara), Dr Haneesh Merasa (IMA), Lt. Col. Lalitha Nambiar (St Teresa’s), N.N. Hena (MG University), Seema G. Nair (actress and social worker), Mehnas Ashfakh ( Wings), Kochi corporation councillors P.M. Haris and Jemini and representatives of Thanal, Aboobaker Farooki, K.K. Basheer, Rajeev Pallurithy and Rafeeqa Jaleel.
Thanal has been working for the last 10 years in Ernakulum district and has 19 units in different regions with over 500 volunteers, 12 OP clinics, 15 ambulance services and 60 home care units. Around 9,000 patients get the benefit of Thanal which has provided services to some one lakh patients in one decade.
Under the Thanal paraplegic care, many other self-help group activities are undertaken with focus on the care of around 450 wheelchair patients. The post-disaster-need assessment group of UN had visited Thanal based on its good initiative during the floods focusing on the disabled sections of society in Ernakulam district.
