Mysuru: Forty-year-old Roopashree Amarnath, came all the way from Mumbai to Mysuru Wednesday night to participate in the Dasara Heritage walk Thursday morning. Dressed in a maroon Mysuru silk saree, she joined her 62- year-old sister, Dakshayini and 25- year- old niece, Chandana from Bengaluru and 323 others on the walk around the heritage city, which began at 7.30am.
With the dress code being traditional, the men wore a dhoti, a Mysore peta and kurta, while the women were dressed in silk sarees and wore jasmine in their plaited hair during the walk that covered 12 heritage buildings.
Tourism minister Sa.Ra. Mahesh, who himself sported a traditional look with a silk shirt and dhoti and a Mysuru peta, flagged off the walk in the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA L Nagendra. Mysuru Heritage experts committee members N.S. Rangaraju and Eechanur Kumar acquainted the participants with rare facts about the heritage monuments covered, which included the Town Hall, the silver jubilee clock tower, the Free Mason's club, the tenth Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, the Mysuru Palace, the fourth Krishnaraja Wadiyar Circle, the small clock tower, the Devraja market, KR Hospital, Chamarajenra Technical Institute building, the Government Ayurvedic college and the Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute the youngest participant was 12 -year- old Vidyuth, a class seven student of St Joseph's school, the oldest was 72 -year- old, M N Yadugiri Gopalan.

Lakshmi leaves Dasara audience spellbound
Noted Bharathanatyam dancer Lakshmi Gopalswamy performed “Nruthyotsava” infront of illuminated Mysuru Palace, here on Thursday evening. She said, “I have done research on royal family of Mysuru and I have done few productions on them too. If we have been able to accept all culture it has been due to the royal family of Mysuru.” Ms Lakshmi Gopalswamy performed ‘Dashavathara’ among others. Infosys foundation chairperson Dr Sudha Murty witnessed cultural programmes in front of the illuminated Mysuru palace, including the performance of Ms Lakshmi Gopalswamy on Thursday evening too.
