Kochi: The Kerala model of gender equality has set an example to the entire country but the state has to go miles to achieve women empowerment. This was stated by Pranjal Patil, assistant collector, Ernakulum, while inaugurating a function held on the occasion of World Girl Child Day at General Hospital here on Thursday.
The day was jointly observed by the Indian Medical Association, Kochi branch, General Hospital, Bhoomika, National Health Mission, Indian Radiological and Imaging Association and Kerala Government Medical Officers Association.
Dr. N. K. Kuttappan, district medical officer, who presided, said, “women are actively involved in the growth and development of society which stresses the need for education and freedom of girl children.”
Dr. Manjusha, radiologist, led an awareness class on the theme, ‘With Her: A Skilled Girl Force.’ A street play and flash mob were also organised by a group of students of Disha.
Dr. A. Anitha, superintendent, General Hospital, Dr. Asha Jose, deputy superintendent, Dr. Haneesh Meerasa, secretary, IMA, Dr. Sheeja, RCH officer, and Dr. Amal, vice-president, IRIA, also attended the function.
