On Wednesday night, water stood at 884.40 ft at Srisailam, against the full reservoir level of 885 ft. Inflows into the dam continue to be high, at about 1.51 lakh cusecs.
According to Srisailam dam chief engineer C. Narayana Reddy, the floodgates will be opened between 6 am and 7 am. The Krishna River Management Board too has advised that the water level be limited to 883 ft.
The Central water resources ministry has appointed Mr A. Paramesham as member-secretary to the Krishna River Management Board in place of Mr Sameer Chatterjee who was transferred. The Telangana state government had lodged a protest with the Centre alleging that the KRMB was biased in favour of Andhra Pradesh in the matter of water distribution between the two states.
