Kozhikode: Corporation dusts off Parking Plaza project, work to begin soon

Kozhikode: The municipal corporation has decided to revive its four-year-old Parking Plaza project near the Corporation Stadium. It was one of the projects envisaged in connection with its silver jubilee celebrations

As per the estimate of the engineering wing, the parking plaza will accommodate 705 cars and 880 bikes in the nine-storey multi-purpose parking-cum-commercial complex that includes a food court, three multiplexes, commercial spaces, auditorium and open spaces ideal for exhibitions.

“A Hyderabad company had in 2004 approached the corporation through the Chamber of Commerce, but failed to get clearance,” businessman C.E. Chakkunny said.

“I hope this council will show the grit to implement the project.”

Mayor A.K. Premajam, announcing the project, had said it had the council's clearance.

Corporation standing committee chairperson P.C. Rajan said the city administration had completed all preparatory works. The estimate and plan are ready.

“Architect is giving finishing touches for the project,” he told DC.

Corporation authorities feel, though insufficient, it would help reduce the lack of parking slots in the city to some extent. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran told reporters that all efforts are on to start the construction of the project as soon as possible.
