Dereliction of duty: Woman police sub-inspector suspended in Bengaluru

A video was shot by onlookers, which later went viral and led to her suspension.

BENGALURU: A woman police sub-inspector attached to Vishwanathpura police station along with a police constable was suspended for dereliction of duty on Monday in Devanahalli Taluk in Bengaluru Rural after they failed to stop gambling in their jurisdiction. The suspension was ordered by the Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of police.

The suspended SI, Baby Walekar, of Vishwanathapura police station, along with a police constable, identified as Nagaraju, had failed to take action against gambling activities in the village.

The SI was earlier suspended in July, 2013, while serving at Market Yard in Raichur district for allegedly assaulting a drunken man. A video was shot by onlookers, which later went viral and led to her suspension.

According to a senior police officer, on Sunday more than 50 people were involved in gambling in Devanahalli Taluk and the suspended duo did not rush to the crime scene and take action, even though they were informed about it.

Later based on a tip off the district crime branch officials carried out the raid and seized Rs 43 lakh in cash. When the senior police officer was informed about the dereliction of duty, he immediately ordered an inquiry and suspended the erring duo.
