Chennai: 21 SRM students chosen for Harvard internship

It was this loss which further strengthened her resolve to find a cure for cancer.

Chennai: When Meghma Mukherjee’s sister succumbed to cancer a few years back, the tragedy not only shook her world but also became a turning point in her life.

It was this loss which further strengthened her resolve to find a cure for cancer.

Her dream will soon become a reality with her becoming one of 21 select students from SRM Institute of Science and Technology chosen to pursue a six-month-long internship at the prestigious Harvard Medical School.

“The internship at the Lab is perfect for me as I will get to observe the behaviour of cancer cells in response to different treatments and how they interact with our immune system,” says an excited Meghma.

The internship will commence in January next year and the students will be mentored by Shiladitya Sengupta, Head, Laboratory of Cancer NanoMedicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States.

For many of these students, this Harvard internship is a once in a lifetime opportunity and they say they hope to make the best out of it.

SRM students have been selected for Harvard internships in the past, but this happens to be the first time that such a high number of students are being admitted for their internship programme.
