Chennai: In order to help Tamil medium students preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Neet), the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation is preparing Tamil translation of resource materials to put it on sale for the medical aspirants.

The textbook corporation entered into an agreement with the Pearson India to translate the Neet resource material into Tamil recently.

“The translation of two volumes has been completed. Now, we want to provide model tests also in Tamil. The testing and programming for QR code are on,” officials said.

“The first priority is the government school students registered for the Neet coaching. After issuing the materials to these students, we plan to issue the Neet Tamil materials to school libraries and put it on sale for medical aspirants,” they added.

The Tamil material will be in addition to the course material provided by Speed Medical Education. As of now, 17,000 students from government and government-aided schools have registered for Neet coaching.

The textbook corporation has not finalised the number of copies to be printed as it is awaiting the final numbers from the school education department.

In addition to the Neet material, the textbook corporation is also at present translating books in various disciplines including law, medicine and engineering.

“Due to the publication and printing of new textbooks, the translation work is progressing slowly. The translation work is expected to be soon,” officials added.

Apart from textbooks, there are efforts to reprint some of the nationalised books including the works of Tamil poet Bharathiyar.
