Telangana: Push for farmers to choose short-term crops

The government is hopeful of good rains in the remaining three weeks of this Kharif season.

Hyderabad: The state government have shifted its focus to Rabi season with hopes on Kharif lost due to poor monsoon.

It is encouraging farmers to go for alternatvie short-term crops instead of water-intensive crops. The government is hopeful of good rains in the remaining three weeks of this Kharif season.

Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said, “Last year, the state witnessed good rains towards the end of Kharif season in September. We are hopeful of the same this year. Nevertheless, we are readying alternative crop plan to mitigate the losses of farmers to the maximum possible extent.”

The agriculture department has started supplying seeds and fertilisers for the rabi season. It hopes that the groundwater level would increase by some extent.
