Mysuru varsity students protest against PM's speech live telecast
Mysuru: Over 30 students from Mysuru University, along with a few social activists, protested against the UGC circular asking colleges and universities to organise a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on Monday, on the occasion of 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s speech at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago,
The students protested in front of the University Senate Bhavan, here on Monday. They said, “Nothing should be imposed forcefully on students. It should be left to their discretion.”
Reacting to the protests, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, at his Sharadadevinagar residence, said, “If the PM is preaching Hindutva, it (compulsory live telecast of the speech) should not be allowed.”
Reacting to Mr Siddaramaiah’s statement, MP Pratap Simha, who was at the Mysuru Airport, said, “Does Siddaramaiah have any idea of Hindutva? It means, ekam evadvitiyam — One God many names. Swamy Vivekananada began his speech saying brothers and sisters, so Hinduism means inclusiveness, involving everyone.”
