Bengaluru: Former IAS officer Vinay Kumar suffers massive heart attack

Roopa had alleged that the fake stamp paper kingpin Abdul Kareem Telgi, who is critically ill, is being helped by under trial prisoners.

Bengaluru: Former IAS officer Vinay Kumar, who was supposed to submit a report on alleged irregularities in the Bengaluru Central Prison at Parapanna Agrahara, suffered a massive heart attack on Monday and was rushed to Jayadeva Hospital, where he was immediately operated upon. He is said to be out of danger now.

Official sources said that Mr Kumar's report was ready on September 1 and he had sought an appointment with the Chief Minister. But the CM was then busy with cabinet expansion. On September 5, journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh was murdered and the BJP's Mangaluru Chalo' rally two days later kept the CM busy.

“Mr. Kumar may now send the report to the government,” said an official source.

The retired IAs officer was asked to probe the allegations made by then DIG, Prisons, D. Roopa against her then boss, DGP, Prisons H.N.S. Rao and some unknown prison officials for accepting bribe of Rs 2 crore to provide VIP facilities to the jailed AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala among other allegations.
