Many slam KMC's delimitation move

Claim delimitation process was already done in 2014.

Kakinada: Many people have raised objections about delimitation of divisions in the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) being taken up before the Corporation elections.

They said that there was no necessity for fresh delimitation as the KMC had already gone through the exercise for delimitation of wards in the city in 2014 and sent it to the state government. They said that reservation of wards and other sections had also been completed.

“The KMC need not take up the delimitation process as this has already been done three years back when they took Turangi village into account. They contend that the delimitation undertaken in 2014 is still valid and elections should be held on that basis,” said former councillor of KMC Mr Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju. He had found fault with the KMC for excluding Turangi village though the people had not demanded that their village be merged with the KMC and the state government had also filed an affidavit in court, submitting the previous delimitation report. But now, the KMC officials had ignored Turangi and undertaken a new delimitation process.

He demanded that the government include Turangi into the KMC and use the previous delimitation report for the forthcoming elections.
Some Telugu Desam leaders also expressed doubts regarding the delimitation process.

They found some of the wards — 3, 31, 39, 15 and others have been disturbed.
They said that there was no scientific process observed in the delimitation of these wards.

They also pointed out that the KMC had also not supplied the delimitation details through newspapers. They simply said that the people should come to the KMC and check the report.

“It is totally wrong. The time at KMC can’t be enough to study the report there. The KMC should publish the entire report in the papers without causing inconvenience to people” said one of the TD leaders.

“The KMC took consideration of the 2014 delimitation which was prepared during the regime of the then Congress MLA. It is not correct and a scientific study is needed for fresh delimitation,” the TD leader added.

But KMC officials said the process had been done as per the government guidelines and no faults were found in it.
