Hot fight ahead in University of Hyderabad polls
Hyderabad: Following Saturday’s sweep of the JNU Students Union polls by Left-leaning parties, all eyes are on UoH which became a political hotbed after the suicide by Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula.
The dynamics in UoH are similar to JNU, with a triangular competition between the Left-backed Students Federa-tion of India, the Ambedkar Students Association of which Rohith was a leader; both parties are ranged against the BJP-affiliated ABVP. The SFI was part of the winning alliance in JNUSU election and won the UoH students union election last year.
The UoH was in the headlines over the protests against hanging of Yakub Memon, like in JNU this year where protests were held against hanging of Afzal Guru.
Even though the UoH students union is to be dissolved and election notification yet to be released, social media was abuzz with each political party trying to make its voice heard by posting their various achievements in the university towards students' welfare. The Students Union election will most probably be conducted by this month's end.
While Left-backed student parties are trolling ABVP for its loss at JNU, the ABVP is retaliating with its win in the Delhi University polls.
Last year while SFI and ASA contested separately, but both came together after Rohith Vemula’s suicide. Neither party confirmed if it would form an alliance this year.
