6,000 gauges but only 300 measure rain in Karnataka

The data presented before these authorities is sketchy, says Dr V.S. Prakash.

Bengaluru: This is shocking to say the least! Karnataka has 6,000 rain gauges installed across the state but the data from these rain gauges is not being considered in presenting a scientific report on water availability in the Cauvery basin to either the Central Water Commission or the Cauvery Monitoring Committee for a fair assessment on distress water sharing among Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, said Dr V.S. Prakash, former special director, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre.

“The data presented before these authorities is sketchy and collected from 300 rain gauges installed by India Meteorological Department,” he said.
