Vijayawada: In a shocking incident, a man beheaded his wife, walk on the road at Srinagar Colony, Satyanarayanapuram, with the head and threw it into a canal. He then went to the police station and surrendered.
Locals who witnessed the incident fled from his path as he walked with the head towards the Budameru canal. The killer was identified as Peteti Prabhu Kumar alias Pradeep, 30, of Ghantasala village of Krishna district.
Police said he had married Mani Kranti, 24, of Vijayawada in 2015. after a love affair. However, disputes had risen between them over the last year and a half and they had begun quarrelling frequently. Police said Mani Kranti had file eight cases against Pradeep in the Satyanarayanapuram police station last year.
Following another complaint recently, the police arrested Pradeep. He secured bail and was released on Saturday.
On Sunday, Mani Kranti went shopping with her mother and returned to her parents’ home at Srinagar Colony, where she has been living for the last few months..
Pradeep who was waiting for her at the gate attacked Mani Kranti with a knife and cut down her head.
Kranti’s family members staged a protest with her body and accused the police of not protecting her though she had filed 10 cases against her husband.
They did not allow the police to take Kranthi’s body for postmortem and demanded that they hand over Pradeep to them. It was only after the police assured them that justice would be done that they allowed the police to proceed.
Speaking to this newspaper, Satyanarayanapuram inspector B. Bala Murali Krishna said the cases filed by Kranti against Pradeep were pending in the court He said that the police had registered a case against Pradeep and started investigation. He was remanded to custody.
