TS Road Transport Corporation fined Rs 5000 for ticket goof-up

Hema Vaishnavi had booked a ticket from Hyderabad to Bengaluru but received an e-mail stating that the transaction was not completed.

Hyderabad: The Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has penalised the TS Road Transport Corporation Rs 5,000 and directed to refund the ticket fare of a passenger who did not get a confirmation during her online booking.

A passenger, Ms Hema Vaishnavi Ale, booked the ticket online in August 2016 to travel from Hyderabad to Bengaluru through the TSRTC website. She did not receive any confirmation message from the TSRTC.

The money was debited but Ms Vaishnavi did not take the bus. She lodged a complaint with the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Hyderabad, alleging deficiency of service.

According to Ms Vaishnavi, she booked a ticket from Hyderabad to Bengaluru but received an e-mail stating that the transaction was not completed. When she checked her bank account, she found that money was debited.

When she approached the RTC, she was informed that the amount will be deposited in her account within 7 to 10 days.

When this was not done, she lodged a complaint with the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum seeking refund of the ticket amount along with compensation for the trauma she had suffered and deficiency of service of the TSRTC.

The TSRTC contended that the complainant had made three transactions out of which two were successful and one was not.

A seat had been allotted and a message was sent. However she ignored it, again booked a ticket and got a seat confirmed and travelled, the RTC said.

The Redressal Forum observed that the TSRTC had delayed the refund for a whole month and hence the complainant deserved to be reasonably compensated for deficiency in service.

It directed the transport corporation to refund the cost of the ticket amount of Rs 723 along with interest at 7 per annum from February 20, 2016, the date of booking, till the money is paid and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for the delay and deficiency in TSRTC service.ema Vaishnavi had booked a ticket from Hyderabad to Bengaluru but received an e-mail stating that the transaction was not completed.
