Salem: Mettur water level crosses 70 feet

The water level in the Mettur reservoir rose rapidly by ten-ft on a single day on Sunday, sources said.

Salem: In a huge cheer for Cauvery delta farmers, inflows into the Mettur reservoir near here has touched 1.15 lakh cusecs on Sunday with reservoirs in upper riparian state of Karnataka releasing 2.70 lakh cusecs of water.

While 1.20 lakh cusecs is being discharged from Kabini dam in Karnataka, the outflow from Krishnaraja Sagar in Mysuru is to the extent of 1.50 lakh cusecs, official sources told DC. The water level in the Mettur reservoir rose rapidly by ten-ft on a single day on Sunday, sources said. The water level in the reservoir has crossed the 70-ft mark and by Monday morning it is expected to touch the 80-ft mark against the dam's full height of 120-ft, sources added.
