Hyderabad: Acupuncturist dies as van slams into wall
Hyderabad: A doctor from the city who was driving home in a van was killed when the vehicle rammed into a wall at Mansoorabad on Saturday night. Eyewitnesses told the police that the vehicle was travelling at high speed when it met with the accident.
Police is verifying if the victim, Anil Kumar Waghray, 68, a resident of Alkapuri Colony of Nagole, was talking on a mobile phone while driving.
According to LB Nagar inspector V. Ashok Reddy, the accident took place at Mansoorabad at about 10.20 pm.
“Anil Kumar was practicing acupuncture at his clinic at Kothapet. On Saturday night, Anil Kumar was driving to home in a van (TS08 ES 5431) from Sahara Road to Mansoorabad when he met with the accident. After crossing the Mansoorabad crossroads, Anil Kumar who was behind the wheel rammed the vehicle into a wall on the roadside. He suffered critical bleeding injuries to the head and died on the spot,” said the inspector.
Responding to a query, the inspector said: “According to witnesses, the car was driven in a rash and negligent manner. It is suspected that Anil Kumar was speaking on the phone when the accident took place, but we have to verify it based on his call data records.”
He said a team was verifying the footage from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity as part of the probe.
A case has been registered under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code for the probe and the body was handed over to his family members after the autopsy at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary on Sunday, said inspector Reddy.
It was not also not clear if Waghray was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.
