BBMP claims it is monsoon ready

To prevent any flooding on the main roads, 26 teams have been formed.

BENGALURU: BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said all precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any kind of floods during this rainy season.

He held a meeting with the Joint Commissioner of all the 8 BBMP zones, chief engineers and Special commissioners on Sunday at IPP Centre at Malleshwaram.

He said work on desilting the stormwater drains and shoulder drains is being carried out.

Mr Manjunath Prasad also reviewed all the works taken up the BBMP in all the 8 zones since December last year.

"Annual maintanance of stormwater drains have been taken up since May 1. Till now, SWDs running up to 440 km have been concretized with the help of 880 workers, 8 JCBs and 15 trucks" he said.

Mr Prasad said 182 vulnerable spots prone to flooding in the city had been identified and the problems have been addressed to prevent flooding there, he said.

To prevent any flooding on the main roads, 26 teams have been formed. Each team has been tasked to take care of 50 km of road, desilting and other works to keep the road free from flooding, he explained.

Sharing his views on the garbage management in the city, Mr Manjunath Prasad said "steps are being taken to dump garbage in Mitiganahalli. Garbage is being sent to all the quarries and city is not facing any garbage problem."

On wastes being generated during Bakrid festival, he said all arrangements are being put in place to collect animal wastes and dispose them scientifically.
