BENGALURU: The simultaneous construction of metro and roads has inconvenienced commuters and BTM Lake Road exemplifies the argument that the government departments work in isolation.
With the demolition of Jayadeva flyover underway the commuters were dependent on BTM Lake Road, but now this road too has been dug up for repairs. The office goers complain that it takes a minimum of 3 hours from Doddakallasandra to Bellandur as the metro construction is in progress on the Outer Ring Road and Jayadeva flyover is being demolished.
“The entire Silk Board junction is heavily burdened. How could you take up the construction work simultaneously in every nook and corner of the city? After the flyover's demolition the only link between Bannerghatta and Outer Ring Road (ORR) was BTM Lake Road. Now that is also dug up,” said Satish Shetty, a local resident.
After the construction of the metro in BTM and white topping in Koramanagala began, motorists used to take Thaverekere route to reach their destinations and the traffic remains immobile for hours.
“We still do not know how the BTM Lake Road project was approved. With utmost disregard to civic understanding the municipal agencies work. They already know the difficult traffic situation in and around Jayadeva and Silk Board,” said Karthik Gowda, daily commuter.
The commuters have taken to Twitter and urged Mayor Gagambike, MLA Ramalinga Reddy and MP Tejasvi Surya to look into the issue. The Bangalore Traffic Police twitter handle has forwarded the complaint to the BBMP. Neither the Mayor nor BBMP engineers have responded to the multiple calls made to them for their take on the issue.
