Hyderabad: Man beaten for urinating near place of worship

The incident, on August 7, came to light after the video went viral.

Hyderabad: An angry mob thrashed a man for allegedly urinating near a place of worship in Rajendranagar, the video of which has gone viral. The man, reportedly being in an inebriated condition, tried to escape the brutal assault by entering a shop but the frenzied mob did not spare him. They tore his clothes and beat him up inside the shop. Rajendranagar police have registered a complaint from the man and booked a case against the mob, as he did it “unintentionally.”

The incident occurred on August 7 and came to light as the video went viral on social media. Speaking to this newspaper about the incident, the Police Inspector of Rajendranagar, G. Suresh, said that the man was in a total drunken state and he did not know where he was and what he was doing. “He did not mean to do it as he was too drunk to know his actions. He had urinated near a temple here, which the area locals noticed and grabbed him to thrash him. When he attempted to escape them and ran inside a shop, the mob followed him in and beat him brutally before fleeing the scene,” said the official.

Based on a complaint given by the man, Rajendranagar Police booked cases against the mob under section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
