Nerella victims' kin: Sub-inspector axed to save top cop
Karimnagar: Describing the suspension of CCS sub-inspector B. Ravinder as ‘eyewash’, families of the victims of the alleged torture said that state government was trying to protect the top police officials responsible for the atrocities against the arrested youths.
The families of the victims say that the state government suspended the S-I even before the National SC Commission could submit its report and demanded stringent action be taken against the top police officials.
Devaiah, whose son was allegedly tortured, while welcoming the suspension of S-I Ravinder, said that he was not the main culprit behind the incident.
He demanded the state government book SP Vishwajith Kampati under the SC, ST Atrocities Act.
Meanwhile, the victims of the alleged torture, who are undergoing treatment in Vemulawada, claimed that they questioned minister K.T. Rama Rao over his prolonged silence on the police excesses and rejected his offer of better treatment in Hyderabad when Mr Rama Rao visited them in the hospital recently.
They wanted the government to explain why action was taken against only one S-I when they named 18 police officers, including SP Vishwajith Kampati, in their complaint.
Their families hope that the National Scheduled Castes Commission’s report will be in their favour as the panel’s member Ramulu collected information from the victims’ family members by visiting Nerella.
“The government wanted to show the SC commission that it has taken action and suspended S-I Ravinder, while sparing the top police officials involved in the incident,” said BJP leader Bandi Sanjay.
