300-year-old tradition of creamting transgenders on Varanasi back from Sept

Lucknow: The dead will finally get their due. In September when the ‘Pitra Paksha’ begins, a collective ‘Pind Daan’ ceremony for transgenders will be held in Varanasi along the banks of the Ganga.
The newly formed ‘Kinnar Akhara’ has decided to hold the post-death ritual for all transgenders who had died in recent years.
Lakshmi Tripathi, the ‘Mahamandaleshwar of the Akhara, said, “We are going to break the three century-old-tradition that does not allow post-death rituals for transgenders. We will start the practice of cremating transgenders”.
