New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the app-based cab service providers like Ola and Uber to not charge surge pricing after August 22.
The court’s order follows the Aam Aadmi Party government's announcement about a draft policy, according to which all cab companies will be bound to charge fares prescribed by the Transport Department.
Delhi Transport Minister Satyendar Jain said the policy will soon be put for public's suggestions for 15-30 days and then sent to the Lt Governor for his approval.
As per the new policy, cab aggregators will not be allowed surge pricing and they will have to charge fares only through meters.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the High Court has asked a committee appointed by the Centre to review Delhi government’s policy and submit a report on it within three months.
The court issued the orders after hearing radio taxi operators association's plea against Ola. The association has claimed that Ola was overcharging its customers.
