Tirupati: Multi-level parking works gather pace

MCT undertakes 55 projects at a cost of Rs 1,733 crores.

TIRUPATI: A multi-level parking lot, a long-pending proposal that was aimed to resolve the parking woes of denizens in temple city, will soon become a reality, as the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) in collaboration with Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited (TSCCL) is now in a mood to realise everything fast.

With P.S. Girisha taking charge as the new commissioner of MCT, the proposals, which were confined on papers till now, has gained some momentum and the officials concerned have been directed to chalk out plans for the realisation of the project.

The commissioner, who personally inspected various places in the city last week, has instructed the officials concerned to work on the possibilities for grounding the project near the Railway Station, where private taxis are being parked at present.

Since it was announced to transform the temple city to a smart city, it has undertaken 55 projects worth Rs 1,733 crores.

Since the corporation owns a substantial amount of land parcel, it has been decided to develop four multi-level car parking (MLCP) projects with a outlay of Rs 200 crores.

Under this plan, two years ago, the corporation decided to construct a multi-level parking at a cost of Rs 60 crores on 0.75-acres vacant land near TTD’s pilgrim amenities complex, Vishnu Nivasam.

“With the ever growing rush of pilgrims, lack of parking facility has become a serious problem and has been giving hardships to the denizens and the pilgrims as well. We have obtained all the necessary clearances for the advanced multi-parking facility which will be taken up soon to end the parking woes. The upcoming facility can accommodate about 120 four-wheelers and 120 two wheelers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the multi-level parking facility is going to come up at a site, which is close to the railway station and the bus stand as well. It is being planned that after the completion, the MCT will allow vehicles to be parked on an hourly basis, according to sources.

It has been also learnt that the MCT is planning to build an automated multi-level parking instead of a conventional one.

The automated one can enable vehicles to be parked in steel pallets, which can be moved up or down to different levels for parking or retrieval.

“Automated multi-level car parking systems are a technically sound option, offering advanced techniques to park and retrieve a car from the facility. Their superior technology simplifies vehicle parking and retrieval with a strong system of pallets, lifts and signaling devices,” an official of municipal corporation, who has been working on this project, explained.
