Salem 8-lane way: Tamil Nadu to compensate land owners well
Chennai: Batting for Rs 10,000 crore Chennai-Salem 8-lane Greenfield Expressway Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy has stated that the government will give sufficient compensation to the land which will be acquired for the project.
Speaking to mediapersons in airport at Madurai on Friday, Palanisamy said the Central government is implementing the project. The government will issue compensation up to Rs 22 lakh for acquisition of one acre of land along with 70 trees.
It may be noted that in a setback to the Centre and the AIADMK, the Madras High Court, on April 8, 2019, quashed the land acquisition process for the Green Corridor Expressway, while observing that the project would have an adverse effect on the environment, water bodies and it needed a mega realignment. Recently the Central government had approached the Supreme Court challenging the high court order.
Answering a question, Palanisamy said government has increased the guideline value. In the past the government issued meager compensation for acquisition of mango and coconut trees. Under the new act, the government has increased the compensation into three fold. All those who give land less than one acre of agricultural land for the project would receive ten cents of land and the government will even construct a house for them. The government will give compensation for acquisition of cow shelter.
Replying to a query on death of 187 persons in honour killing in the past five years, Palanisamy said the government would take efforts to prevent such incident.
