Hyderabad: Mom dead, husband kids try to end life
Hyderabad: A 65-year-old man died in a suicide pact and his two children, in their thirties, survived their attempt to kill themselves after his wife, died of ill health.
Amberpet inspector J. Ravinder said the police received a call over Dial 100 and rushed to the house in Durgabai Deshmukh colony. “We broke open the door and found four inmates unconscious, so we called an ambulance,” he said.
The ambulance staff said that Pawan Karbanda, 65, and his wife Neelam were dead, and their children Manu, 34, and Nikhil, 30 — both unmarried — were unconscious. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The police initially assumed that the family attempted suicide over financial issues. During the investigation, however, they found that Neelam was suffering from lung and kidney ailments and died in a hospital on July 9 after which she was brought home. It appears as though the family had not informed anyone of Neelam’s death.
"Prima facie, it looks like suicide. We found soft drink bottles near their bodies in the house. We suspect they might have mixed sleeping pills in the drinks to kill themselves,” Mr Ravinder said.
On Wednesday, when Neelam's brother Hari Mohan knocked on their door, he received no response. Assuming that no one was home, he decided to leave. He later tried getting in touch with them over the phone but to no avail.
On Thursday, when their domestic help knocked on their door, there was still no response. The owner of the house then informed the police.
