Bhopal: A local court here on Thursday sentenced a 35-year-old man to death for raping and murdering a minor girl last month. Special judge, protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Kumudini Patel awarded capital punishment to Vishnu Bomra for raping and killing an eight-year-old girl here on June eight.
The convict was also sentenced to life for the offence of unnatural sex with the victim. The victim was on her way to make purchases from a local shop on the fateful day when the accused abducted her and then murdered her after raping her. Her body was found in a drain in the morning of June nine.
The police filed chargesheet in the case on June 12 and the judgment in the case was pronounced within a month. The arrest and conviction were based on analysis of evidence from DNA and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) tests, which helped nail the culprit.
The judge examined 30 witnesses before awarding the punishment.
