TN will promote hybrid vegetable cultivation: Edappadi K Palaniswami

Chennai: The State government will promote hybrid vegetable cultivation across TN as part of its efforts to help the drought-hit farmers. The CM said cultivation of hybrid variety of vegetables like tomato and brinjal would be taken up in 11,250 acres in 22 districts of the State and a sum of Rs.9 crore would be earmarked for this scheme.

These hybrid varieties, he said, required lesser quantity of water, and ensured higher yield. Seeds and saplings required for this scheme would be distributed to farmers at 50 per cent subsidy up to Rs. 8,000 per acre. This would benefit 2,250 farmers.

Among others, the Chief Minister proposed setting up 597 “Pack Houses” to store and sift horticulture produce. A total of Rs. 11.94 crore was being allotted for this purpose, he said.
