Rapped by Supreme Court, social activist to file plea
Bengaluru: The Supreme Court on July 3 slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh on social activist Abraham T.J. for challenging the shifting of the proposed mini-Vidhana Soudha in Kalaburagi district through a public interest litigation (PIL).
Mr Abraham, addressing the media on Tuesday, said, “The order from the court won’t hinder my fight for justice. I will file a review petition, along with an application for the modification of the court’s order.”
He said that the earlier petition filed by him was dismissed by the court as it was not represented effectively. But he maintained that the failure before the court does not take away the fact that the order issued by the chief minister was illegal as the reports and the decisions of the deputy commissioner, regional commissioner and additional chief secretary on the construction of the mini-Vidhan Soudha in Aland Taluk were overruled.
Mr Abraham found it to be an act of private interest of an MLA of Aland Taluk, Mr B.R. Patil, rather than as part of public policy.
Mr Abraham said, “If it is constructed in the suggested place it will cause a lot of inconvenience to the people as it is 6-8 km from the Aland bus stand and there is no connectivity.”
